Karen Stokes began her study of cosmetology in high school in early 1970’s. After pursuing a career in a family owned business for twenty years, she returned to the field of cosmetology and obtained her license in early 1992. The entry position of her career was as a commission stylist. After acquiring enough hands-on experience and advanced training, she ventured into booth rental in 1998. Salon ownership and management was the next milestone in Ms. Stokes’s cosmetology career in 2005. At the beginning of 2009, she obtained her instructor’s license under the training of Hubert McCloud. Ms. Stokes joined the team at The Academy of Hair Technology in May of 2009 where she currently holds a position of a classroom Professor.
Ms. Stokes’s philosophy of teaching is a defined approach. It is her belief that a professional cosmetologist consists of three ingredients; one is talent, the second is desire and the third is knowledge. The student must supply the first two; she believes that it is her job is to assist in the knowledge.
Ms. Stokes’s approach is to present the information in an organized, factual manner with the emphasis on the personal abilities of each individual student. “I also believe that learning is best accomplished in an enjoyable, yet structured environment” says Stokes.
